Fordite by Bruce / Colorful

The piece is very thick and large. Both sides are completely different. This piece is one of a collection that was cut by my apprentice, Bruce.

Chunk of Fordite sanded to 220 grit. From various sources that may include Ford, Mustang, Chrysler, GM. Approximately 12 mm wide x 26.50 mm long x5.50mm thick.

WHAT IS FORDITE? Genuine Fordite comes from automobile paint booths in factories and holds the historical record of the cars that were assembled there on the production line. The overspray from painting collects on the metal racks that hold up the car or car parts and every few months it has to be chiseled off so production can continue. When the overspray is removed, the Fordite contains the paint record of every car, make and model that has passed through the production line. It has the hardness of a sedimentary rock and can be cut and shaped with lapidary tools. This is the raw material that I use to create the cabochons, jewelry, and display pieces found in my shop.
